Division games for kids

Division is multiplication in reverse. Children who know that 6 × 7 = 42 can quickly work out 42 ÷ 7. That’s why the division practice here grows out of the times tables, then shows up in real-world problems.

What your child practises

  • Division facts linked to times tables
  • Sharing into equal groups in word problems

When do children learn this?

Division facts usually come in grades 3–4 (Years 3–5), with longer division by grades 5–6.

How to help at home

  • Ask “how many 7s make 42?” — it links division straight to multiplication.
  • Share real things equally: cards, sweets, Lego bricks.
  • Make sure times tables are secure first; division gets much easier.
